So we’re starting to wind up now for the 2020 cricket season, with county matches starting on Easter Sunday, April 12th. We’re also looking forward to the much-awaited The Hundred, bringing a brand-new format to the game. And in the middle of the season is the T20 Vitality Blast series. On top of these, we have international matches against Australia, West Indies, Pakistan and Ireland. Gordon Hollins, the ECB’s managing director for county cricket is quoted as saying ‘The great opportunity that cricket has that any other sport would give their left arm for, is the fact that we have different formats that appeal to different people, and it’s always a challenge trying to satisfy and give every type of cricket supporter what they want out of the schedule’. An exciting summer of cricket awaits – just need the wind and rain to go away now and Spring to make its entrance. At least the evenings are getting a bit lighter.
At DEM Sports we’re starting to get busy now with orders for equipment for the new season. This is always a really hard one to predict – what will be the season’s big sellers. So far this year we’re having a run on covers, so if you are likely to need new or replacement covers this season, get in touch soon.
We are convinced that there is a market out there in schools for our Concertina and Multi-sport cages, we just need to find it. If you’re a school or have connections with a school that may be interested in one of these cages, take a look at the product details on the website. You might be especially interested in the possibility of leasing a cage for your school. This can be arranged over 3, 4 or 5 years and doesn’t tie up your capital equipment budget.
We completed the installation mentioned in the last Blog at Westfield Shopping Centre, in Stratford, East London. Home Run House is a block of 4 bespoke designed cages for baseball practice. Feedback so far has been very positive, and we are hopeful that it might lead to more installations along the same lines. We’re also looking forward to completing another deal with Batfast, for installation of cages in a shopping centre in Watford.
We’re starting to think now about our involvement with charities over the next season. We’re particularly inspired by the Government’s Sporting Future strategy, which has put mental health at its heart, recognising the positive impacts that sport and physical activity can have on both physical and mental wellbeing. And a charity close to our hearts is the Alzheimer’s Society; we are looking to hook up with local friends who are active supporters of the Society and work out how best we can support them.
As ever, please get in touch if we can help you with your equipment needs, whether something from our standard range, or something bespoke.
